About Us
We have :-
381 members
4 United Churches, 6 Methodist and 1 URC
3 Sector stipendiary ministers
2 non-stipendiary ministers
3 supernumeraries
an area administrator
enthusiastic local preachers
team ministry with a supportive Executive committee
The churches are organised in three sectors, each of which has its own full-time stipendiary minister, with additional support from Methodist and URC non-stipendiary and supernumerary ministers, and one retired Baptist minister who gives us unstinting preaching assistance.
There are close links with the many local Anglican churches throughout the Area. In all the towns we play a key role in ministerial fraternals and local families of churches. In a number of villages, services are regularly shared with our Anglican friends.
The United Area shares a common constitution with the neighbouring West Wilts United Area. This stipulates that:-
the Area Meeting serves as both Methodist circuit meeting and URC District Council.
there shall, at any one time, be at least one Methodist and one URC minister.
the Area Meeting appoints the Area Chairman (from either denomination) who is both Methodist Circuit Superintendent and President of the URC District Council.
the position of Area Chairman is rotated on a 3 year basis, although the incumbent may be re-elected for a second three year term.
